When planning a photography session or wedding, there are many choices to be made. In the search for a professional photographer, a client may question: ‘Why do I need a contract?’ and ‘Why do I need to pay a deposit in order to book my date?’. Here's a little more insight on why we require these for every session...
Why do I need a contract?
A wedding or portrait session contract is extremely important, and as a professional, your photographer of choice should offer one. A contract is a commitment between you and your photographer, and vital in establishing trust that the photographer will uphold their word to provide a service for you. It is important in providing peace of mind to you, the client, of a few things (among others):
• Your date and/or session time is held solely for you
• Confirms your understanding of the agreed services and products offered
• States the terms and conditions applicable,
• The requirements and rights of both parties, and
• The consequences should either party cancel or not uphold the agreement.
We encourage all clients to read their contract thoroughly so that they understand the terms to which they are signing. Contracts are signed to protect BOTH the client and the photographer. Be sure to carefully review your contract and ask questions if you don't understand something before signing. You should never sign a contract if you don't fully understand or do not agree to the terms. Signing a contract is legally binding and there can potentially be ramifications upon cancellation, such as lost deposit and/or loss of photographic services.
Why do I need to pay a deposit in order to book my date?
Most photographers ask for a non-refundable deposit. Even before you officially book your date, time goes into e-mails and communication about your session, etc. Your photographer has already begun planning for your date even before you have signed for it. Most importantly - your deposit secures your date, thereby making it unavailable to other clients. With our busy schedule, we require the contract and deposit for your session be completed within 2 days of creation, as many dates, especially weekends, are in high demand. Portraits sessions require a $25 deposit and a $250 deposit for weddings.
