I am excited to offer newborn mini sessions in my studio! This is a shorter and more affordable option for parents who want to capture a few beautiful images of their brand new baby.
Q: How is a Wrapped Newborn Mini Session different than a Newborn Session?
A: A regular newborn session typically lasts 2-3 hours. This allow plenty of time to soothe and feed babies, to make them nice and sleepy. Sleepy babies are more easily posed, which is essential for safely positioning your baby in those sweet, flexible poses. Newborns are happier if they are not changed too often, and therefore will be naked for the majority of the newborn session. The full newborn session also includes parent and sibling poses.
The wrapped newborn mini session is simply a shorter version of a regular newborn session, but where baby stays wrapped or swaddled the entire time. The focus is only on your sweet baby, and doesn't include any other family members. A wrapped mini session allows you to get in and out of the studio quickly and with beautiful images!
Q: How long is a Wrapped Newborn Mini Session?
A: A wrapped session generally lasts about 30-60 minutes. The baby is wrapped from the very beginning and stays wrapped for the entire session. Babies love to be wrapped - it helps them feel warm and secure. Keeping them wrapped also eliminates the time usually spent feeding and soothing baby to sleep. Since this session does not include any naked poses, its quick and easy to transition baby from one setup to another. I can get a variety of images in half the time, whether baby is awake or asleep.
Q: What is the age limit for a Wrapped Newborn Mini Session?
A: A wrapped newborn mini session can accommodate older babies - up to 4 weeks! Typical newborn sessions will require babies to be no older than 14 days (preferably around 5-8 days), as they sleep more during this age and will be most cooperative to pose and photograph. Once babies are a few weeks old, they start to become more awake and alert. This makes those sleepy poses much more difficult to achieve. Beyond 4 weeks of age, I recommend a baby milestone Portrait Collection, which can be scheduled anytime from three months and beyond. (Exceptions will be made for babies who arrived early or spend early weeks in the NICU).
Q: What does a Wrapped Newborn Mini Session include?
A: A wrapped mini session includes 2-3 setups using simple props, wraps and accessories provided by the studio. The session does not include family or sibling poses. The client will receive an online gallery of 10-12 edited images with a print release. The images are downloaded from the gallery by the client directly to their computer, or the client can purchase a USB flash drive for an additional $15.
Q: What type of setups are created for Wrapped Newborn Mini Sessions?
A: Wrapped sets are created using the beanbag, flokati fur, and simple props like a basket or box. Within each setup, I will photograph different angles and details, and switch out accessories, such as headbands and hats to create a variety of images. My style tends to lean more towards simple, neutral images that focus on your sweet baby, rather than elaborate sets and props.
Q: How do I prepare for a Newborn Mini Session?
As with any other newborn session, preparation is important. I always send parents a few tips to help make sure our session will go smoothly. For wrapped sessions, we want to make sure that baby is fed just prior to the session. Having a full belly helps keep them calm and content; we don’t want baby to be hungry during their session! Since their diaper stays on the entire time, we just want to make sure it’s clean before getting started.
I provide all the wraps, props and accessories for the session. Simply bring extra diapers and be prepared to feed baby if necessary. It helps to bring a pacifier to keep baby calm. Even if you haven’t used one before, just for the short time period usually really helps.
Q: When should I book?
A: It is best to get your baby on our books at least 2-3 months before your due date. I usually recommend contacting us once you hit the 2nd trimester. Our schedule books quickly, and often I cannot squeeze your newborn in if you wait to contact us after your baby has arrived.
As soon as you are interested in booking your newborn session, contact us through our booking form. We will email you back with pricing options and discuss the specifics of the session. All of our pricing can be found on the Investment page. Once you have chosen which session or collection you would like, we will send you an email with the booking link for you to access and digitally sign your contract. The $50 deposit is due at the same time; you will be prompted to pay online by debit /credit or PayPal after signing the contract. Once both the contract is signed and deposit is paid, we will pencil in your due date on our books, and once your baby arrives we will schedule the exact date and time for your session. Your remaining balance will be due at your session. We accept cash, check, or credit/debit at the studio.
We are excited to introduce you to a new feature: Your Client Portal! It is our goal to make things easier for any correspondences, so we have set up a secure communication site where you can make payments, sign agreements, answer questionnaires and see any invoices associated with your account.
Once you set up your Client Portal, you will see these tabs:
Information: Your contact information will be listed here, and you can edit anything that is incorrect and update your account.
Events: Any session or event that you book will be listed here, along with times and location(s).
Contracts: If you digitally sign a contract it will be available here for your corresponding event.
Invoices: Any invoices that are paid or unpaid. Simply select your invoice to make a payment online.
Questionnaires: All questionnaires can be found and completed here. Questionnaires help us learn more about you and what you expect from your session or event, as well as provide us feedback afterwards.
Pictures: Links to proofing galleries that we have tagged to your event.
Documents: These are any extra documents that we might attach to your account (for example, contracts that were signed in person).
Last month we announced our plans to move out of our in-home studio and into a larger space in downtown Swanton, Ohio. The former Pilliod Opera House, built in 1897, will be home to our new storefront and photography studio. The Opera House hosted a variety of activities in the early 1900s, such as piano recitals, social balls, duck-pin bowling, and basketball games (there's still a full court upstairs!). This building has also housed several businesses throughout the years, including a bank, A&P grocery store, and hardware store.
Here's what it looks like today. The windows and doorways have been boarded up for decades. We found the original 8 foot windows, and plan to reinstall them in the future to finally let in the natural light that the building has craved for so long. We want to restore as much of the building's original character as we can, so we've got a lot of renovation ahead of us.
We ripped out layers of flooring to expose the original wood floors, and removed the drop ceiling in the front room that was hiding a grand 14 foot high tin ceiling.
Our next steps include updating some of the electrical, painting the ceilings, and sanding the floors. Hopefully the next update will be much prettier!
Baby Corrigan is finally here! Len Richard was born on June 19 at 5:21 am, and I came up to the hospital later that evening to capture his first day. This type of lifestyle session was a first for me, but something I've been wanting to try for a while. I really enjoyed it, so we will be offering a "First Day" mini-session in the future (contact us for details). Congrats again, Ryan & Misti - he's perfect!
We've recently made new changes to our portraiture session prices. And no, we didn't raise our prices; in most cases, the session fee went down. In the past, we used different price points based on subject matter - a family of four had a higher fee than a sitting with just one child, for example. With the new pricing, we actually simplified our session fees and aimed for more customizable options. Here's the run down:
The Basic Session
Our basic session fee is now a $50 flat fee for a one hour session at one location (within 25 miles of our studio), with up to 6 people. That's it. It can be family, kids, maternity, even a high school senior. This session will typically yield 20-40 edited images.
Customize the Basic Session
If you need more camera time, want to travel to more locations, or have a larger group to be photographed, it's simple to add on more services. Add $25 for each of the following that applies - additional locations, an extra 30 minutes of shooting, travel to a location further than 25 miles, or a group larger than 6 people.
Prints & Products
Once your session is complete, the edited images are placed in an online, password-protected gallery for you to view within 2-3 weeks. When you're ready to order, we offer prints, standouts, gallery wraps, or a disc of all the edited images with print release - whatever you prefer!
For those who want even more, we've also put together some packages that combine our services and products at a discounted rate or with freebies. For example, our "Bump to Bundle" package includes a one hour maternity session, one hour newborn session, $100 print credit, 25 birth announcements, and a Facebook timeline cover, all for $200.
We hope that our new price structure will make it easier to compare and select services, while giving our customers more options and flexibility. Links to PDF files of our session and print prices can be found below. As always, we welcome any comments, suggestions or questions!
This October we’re offering mini sessions for the first time. If you haven't heard of mini sessions, or just want a little more info, here's a quick Q&A:
What is a mini session?
A mini session is a shorter version of a portraiture session with a discounted price. The event typically has a theme, and offers a disc of 10-15 edited images with print release.
How is it different than a regular session?
The theme and setting are selected by the studio, the event typically occurs on a set day and time, the shooting time is shorter, and includes a disc of a limited amount of images rather than an online gallery.
How long is a mini-session?
The photography session block is 30 minutes. We recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes early to be prepared for your scheduled start time, and plan to stay a few minutes after the session to exchange contact information and payment.
How much does a mini session cost?
Typically our mini sessions cost $50-$75, depending on what “extras” we are offering.
Who can be photographed during mini-sessions?
Mini sessions are open to adults, children, families, and even pets (depending on location).
Can we do multiple grouping or wardrobe changes during our mini session?
We will do more than one pose per session, and will try to incorporate different groupings as time allows. Unfortunately, the sessions are too short to allow outfit changes.
When will we get our images?
Processing will be completed within 2-3 weeks of the session date, unless stated otherwise. You will be notified by email or phone upon completion, and you are welcome to pick up your disc or we can mail it to you.
A mini session is a great way to get some fun and unique photos without the commitment of a full length session. If you need to update the family photo, get some new shots of the kids, or wear those halloween costumes more than once, contact us to book your spot at our Fall Mini Sessions! Or, if you’re looking for more of a custom photography session, we’ll be happy to schedule that as well.
